Tips & Tricks when using Desktop Live Wallpaper+

Last updated: 22-03-2026

1. Use slow footage background

If you want to use video as a desktop background, a good idea is to choose slow footage videos, ideally slow motion videos. Even without sound it is most of the time the best choice.

Mix a lot of different footages around the same topic that matches your style.

2. Prefer max 20sec footages

Choose short length videos, ideally less than 20 seconds each. Worldwide collections for video wallpapers provide short footage for a reason — they offer a general, aesthetic view of a specific topic, whether drone footage of mountains or sea/beach views.

Choose short (10–20 sec), slow-motion videos and group similar ones in the same set. Mix with photos from the same topic with a short transition threshold (e.g. 8 seconds).

3. For photos, select a very low threshold to switch media

Desktop Live Wallpaper+ is far more interesting than using the built-in Windows 10/11 photo slideshow. The app creates a unique video effect mix on-the-fly as it transitions between two photos, with over 40 different Video Effects available.

Just select your photos and set a very low time threshold, like 6 seconds (the app's minimum).

4. Use the same set of photos many times (!)

Pick 5–6 favourite photos, add them, then click Add+ and choose the same photos again — repeat 4–5 times. The app creates different video effect transitions for each pair, so a 6-second threshold with 5 photos gives 5×6 = 30 sec, plus transitions (6×2 = 12 sec) = 42 seconds total per set.

Repeat the set 4–5 times and you'll end up with over 4 minutes of your favourite photos with 32 beautiful transition effects.
